Mezzo-soprano Magdalena Wór is praised often for the sumptuous color of her voice and her complete devotion to music and text. “She has that kind of velvety rich mezzo that makes you want to follow her anywhere.” (The Washington Post) Her vocal flexibility allows her to easily span the lower to upper registers of the mezzo range as well Baroque through 21st century repertoire. While she commands a wide range of musical genre, Magdalena’s forte is oratorio.
In 2020, Magdalena returns to Alabama Symphony Orchestra for Mozart’s Requiem and marks her debut with Savannah Philharmonic for Handel’s Messiah. In recent seasons, Magdalena has returned to Alabama Symphony for performances of Handel’s Messiah and Bach’s Magnificat and to Atlanta Symphony for Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Regina coeli, Requiem, andMass in C “Coronation.” She was featured with National Philharmonic for Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass, University of Kentucky Orchestra for Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony and Prokofiev’s Alexander Nevsky, and Berlioz’s Les nuit d’été with Capital City Symphony (Washington, DC). Magdalena sang her debut performances with Seattle Symphony under the baton of Gary Thor Wedow and Richmond Symphony with conductor Keitaro Harada as soloist for Messiah.
Additional engagements and honors include Greig’s Peer Gynt Suites with National Symphony Orchestra, Janáček’s Glagolitic Mass with Cathedral Chorale Society of the Washington National Cathedral; Maddalena in Opera Birmingham’s Rigoletto; the title role in Carmen for Palm Beach Opera and Lyric Opera of Virginia; Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with Alabama Symphony; Bach’s B Minor Mass with the National Philharmonic; recitals at the Polish and Hungarian Embassies in Washington, DC; Tisbe for Washington Concert Opera’s La Cenerentola; Vivaldi’s Gloria, Mozart’s Requiem, and Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 with the National Philharmonic; solo recitals in London at the Polish Ośrodek Spoleczno-Kulturalny celebrating Chopin’s 200th Birth Anniversary; a concert with Baltic Opera; recognition as a finalist in the 2011 Marcello Giordani and Moniuszko International Vocal Competitions; and featured solo artist in the film documentary on Marcello Giordani.
Magdalena Wór is a First Place Winner of the Heinz Rehfuss Vocal Competition, a Metropolitan Opera Competition National Finalist, an alumna of the San Francisco Opera’s Merola Summer Opera Program and the Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program at the Washington National Opera. Originally from Poland, Magdelana has lived in the United States since 1991.
