Dorota Lato
Ms. Lato studied music since the early age at Music Elementary and Music High schools in Warsaw Poland, where she was a major in piano performance. Ms. Lato holds Bachelor degree in piano performance and children education. She graduated from the University of Warsaw after receiving Masters Degree in Oriental Languages. Prior to that she studied musicology and history of oriental art and music at University of “9th September” in Izmir, Turkey and at University of Warsaw, Poland. Between 1986 and 1991 she worked for the National Polish Public Radio in the Classical Music division preparing and hosting her own radio programs.
In 1990 Ms. Lato immigrated to the United States. Living in the New York metropolitan area, she successfully cooperated with countless American organizations, bringing Polish artists to the United States and inviting American artists to Poland and organizing cultural events. In 1994 she moved to Atlanta where she continues her work in organizing various cultural events. The most important include: a music tribute to Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski and the Olympic Committee at Spivey Hall during the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, a musical tribute to American composer David Diamond at Spivey Hall in 1998, performances at Roswell Cultural Arts Center, Kennesaw University, Callanwolde Arts Center and Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center among others.
Ms. Lato is a founder and a President of the Chopin Society of Atlanta, which was established in 2000. Since then she presented many sold out concerts with the world’s greatest pianists performing today such as Sergei Babayan, Ingrid Fliter, Kevin Kenner, Dina Yoffe, Ewa Poblocka, Piotr Folkert, Marek Drewnowski and Leszek Mozdzer. Chopin Society was praised by Atlanta Journal-Constitution as a concert series with an “exquisite programming choices”. She was awarded by Polish Ambassador in the United States for her efforts in promoting Polish Culture in the US.
Her husband Piotr Folkert is a concert pianist. Their two daughters, Eliza and Emilia, have begun to join their father on the concert stages. They performed together in the United States, France, Spain, Finland, Poland, Dubai, and Germany.
